Research Interests

Professor Joel Jennings is a geographer by training and is beginning research in the area of work and occupations.

Joel completed his Masters of Business Administration (M.B.A.) at the Chaifetz School of Business at Saint Louis University. This led him, in part, to undertake his ongoing study exploring the intersection between economic geography and business as mediated through the work of economic developers.

Joel's previous research focused largely on immigration and the Latiné population in the United States. He has published a number of articles exploring various dimensions of the Latiné experience in non-traditional destinations. His doctoral research explored emergent spaces of citizenship and detailed the efforts of immigrant-serving interlocutors working with the Latiné population in the St. Louis region.

Joel primarily uses qualitative research approaches, though he regularly collaborates with quantitative scholars on mixed-methods and quantitative studies. He is looking forward to undertaking a primarily ethnographic study of economic development and work in the near future.
