Start Teaching in Fall 2025 as an STL Teaching Fellow @ SLU
Serve the schools of St. Louis and put your bachelor's degree to use in the classroom while you earn your teaching certification. If you are interested in one of the following certification areas — art, biology, business, chemistry, English, language arts, family and consumer science, French, instrumental music, vocal music, math, physical education, physics, science, social science, speech and theater, or Spanish — Saint Louis University's Master of Arts in Teaching (M.A.T.) with Alternative Certification allows you to take a teaching job while pursuing your graduate degree.
Program Highlights
- Complete your master's degree and earn a Missouri teaching certificate — all while earning a full-time salary of $40,000+ starting in August 2025 with one of SLU's partner school districts.
- Competitive tuition rate of $680 per credit hour so you can earn a high-quality degree for about $10,000 per year. Partial- and full-tuition scholarships are available for qualified applicants.
- As an STL Teaching Fellow, teach full time in partner school districts, such as St. Louis Public Schools, Ferguson-Florissant, Hazelwood, Ritenour, Riverview Gardens or Confluence Academies.
- Coaching from the School of Education's outstanding faculty allows for real-time feedback on your teaching methods and classroom management.
- Two-year, 32-credit-hour cohort program. Summer courses begin in June, preparing you to enter the classroom in August. Courses are more concentrated during the summer, with one evening course and a practicum requirement during the fall and spring semesters, allowing you to focus on teaching during the academic year.
