SLU LAW Jessup Moot Court Team Advances

The SLU LAW Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Team will advance to the International Rounds in April. They will be among only 12 teams to compete from across the nation.

Recently, the team participated in the Midwest regional rounds held in Chicago. They took second place overall and won third Best Brief. The team consists of Jacob Wells, Tim Sutton, Rashae Williams, and Katie Hoffecker, with coaches Professor Ira Trako, associate director of the Center for International and Comparative Law, and Professor and director of Appellate Advocacy, Paige Canfield. Katie Hoffecker (sixth place) and Jacob Wells (seventh place) placed in the鈥疶op 10 Oralists鈥痮ut of more than 60 students who competed in the Midwest regionals.鈥�� 
 
Jessup, the world's largest moot court competition, has participants from about 700 law schools in 100 countries and jurisdictions. The International Rounds require students to first write a memorial brief, then argue their side in front of a panel of mock International Court of Justice ("ICJ") judges. In the United States, law schools compete regionally, with the top two schools moving on to the international rounds. National winners from various countries come from across the world to compete in Washington, D.C., with 12 schools representing the United States. The competition will take place from April 9 to April 15, 2023.
