Consecrations Revisited
December 1, 1996 to February 5, 1997
Consecrations was the first group exhibition that put AIDS within a spiritual framework. Its 28 diverse artists, working in a range of media, expressed their experience with the disease in ways that reflected a profound empathy for anyone who has been touched or will be touched by the reality of AIDS. Consecrations made clear that AIDS is everyone's concern, and the artists in the exhibition provided images of suffering, courage, compassion, hope, faith and love.
Consecrations proved to be a groundbreaking exhibition, one that garnered MOCRA significant press coverage and highly favorable reviews, and most importantly, a strong and appreciate response from audiences. And so, for a limited time, MOCRA gives an encore presentation of many of the works from the exhibition.
Artists in the exhibition include:
Gryphon Blackswan | Ken Chu | Michael David | Don Eddy | Nancy Fried | Max Gimblett | Daniel Goldstein | Juan Gonzalez | Donald Grant | Carolyn Jones | Tobi Kahn | Adrian Kellard | Horatio Hung-Yan Law | Tim Liddy | Anne Minich | Judy Silver | Alec Vargo
Consecrations is a coming together of the art community in response to the AIDS crisis. With boldness and in many modes of expression, these artists courageously confront human suffering and loss, but transcend the pain with faith, hope, love and compassion. | Terrence Dempsey, SJ
