Center for Social Action Awarded Allstate Foundation College Service Grant

The Center for Social Action at Saint Louis University (SLU) is thrilled to announce that it has received The Allstate Foundation鈥檚 2024-2025 College Service Grant.
This funding supports the 1818 Community Engagement Grant Program, which provides grants to SLU students, faculty, and staff working alongside local nonprofit organizations to address pressing community needs. This year, a record-breaking 68 applications were received, and 18 impactful projects have each been awarded $1,800 in funding.
With a focus on areas like healthcare, mentorship, and support for underrepresented communities, the selected projects exemplify innovative solutions and dedicated partnerships. Among this year鈥檚 initiatives are:
- Loyola Labyrinth Project
- The Wrongful Conviction Review Collaborative
- Asylum Clinics
- STL Youth Literacy Initiative by SLU BLSA
- Beyond the Page: Poetry Club for Kids
- Hope in the Ville Orchard
- Advocacy in Action: Winter Necessity Kits for the Magdala House Foundation
- Promoting Healthy Nutrition Behaviors, Social Communication, and Mealtime Participation in a Montessori School Setting
- Days for Girls: Empowering Menstruators in Juvenile Detention
- Bilingual Science Night at St. Cecilia School and Academy
- Alzheimer Awareness in All Ages
- Fostering Play: An Interprofessional Approach to Increase Access to Adapted Toys for Children with Disabilities
- Youth Medical Exposure Program
- Exercise Driven Group Empowerment (EDGE)
- The S.C.A.R.F. AED Education Initiative
- Feeding Resilient Families
- SLU Community Empowerment Day: Where Resources Meet Family, Food, and Fun
- Empowering Young Students with Python, AI, and Analytics
Funded by The Allstate Foundation鈥檚 鈥淎 Return to Service鈥 initiative, the grant promotes youth-led service as an essential force for community improvement and strengthens SLU鈥檚 mission to develop students as confident leaders committed to social change.
To celebrate and explore the impact of these projects, the SLU community is invited to the 1818 Community Engagement Grant Showcase on scheduled for Thursday, May 1, 2025, from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. in the CGC Auditorium.
Attendees can meet project leaders, learn more about the ongoing work, and see how these student-led initiatives are transforming communities.
