Saint Louis University’s Department of Mathematics and Statistics offers scholarships and awards for current sophomores, juniors and seniors.
Scholarships for Continuing Students
Boeing BOLD Scholarship
The Boeing Company is committed to preparing leaders for the global workforce. Saint Louis University offers an ideal partnership opportunity by providing a multidisciplinary and holistic education which is not only recognized for technical excellence, but is also highly regarded for its legendary preparation of the whole person.
Therefore, the BOLD Scholarship presents the Boeing Company with a unique opportunity to select and mentor those students majoring in business, engineering, mathematics or computer science at Saint Louis University and with the best leadership potential.
The Boeing BOLD Scholarship provides 10 students with scholarships worth $4,800 and is awarded to students in the following schools: College of Arts and Sciences, Richard A. Chaifetz School of Business, and Parks College of Engineering, Aviation and Technology.
To be eligible, a student must:
- Be a sophomore, junior or senior with a SLU cumulative GPA of 3.2 or above.
- Have a primary major in one of the four focus areas: business, engineering, mathematics,
and computer science; and a secondary major, minor or certificate in one of the four
focus areas.
- Students may have a primary major and a secondary major, minor or certificate in the same college or school. Preference is given to students who have formally declared their major.
- Potential to make a significant contribution to the University's goal of providing
a culturally, professionally and ethnically diverse learning environment.
Preference will be given to United States citizens.
Students who intend to complete a dual major or a minor in one of the academic programs listed above are encouraged to declare their intentions with their academic advisor and with each academic department.

Francis Regan Scholarship
The Francis Regan Award was established in honor of Francis Regan on his retirement in 1971 and was given to graduating seniors. In 2006, it became the Francis Regan Scholarship, given to students during their senior year.
The top mathematics major (or majors) receive the scholarship, based on grades in mathematics courses, difficulty of mathematics courses attempted, other achievements in mathematics, and the opinions of the faculty.
Costigan Scholarship
The James G. Costigan scholarship was established in 2005. Costigan Scholarships are two-year scholarships awarded to juniors who show exceptional promise in the fields of mathematics and computer science.
Circle of Five Scholarship
This endowed scholarship is given each year to mathematics majors who plan to teach mathematics at the secondary level. It was established by Richard Winter in 2009.
Senior Awards
Collins Award
The College of Arts and Sciences annually presents the James D. Collins Awards for Excellence in Student Academic Achievement to recognize scholarship and creative achievements among undergraduate students. One student is chosen by faculty in each department of the college.
Garneau Award
The Garneau award established in 1924 by Mrs. James Garneau in memory of her husband. It is an annual cash award to one or more of the most outstanding graduating seniors in mathematics.
Al and Shelley Beradino Award
The Beradino Award is an annual cash award given each year to an undergraduate student for service to the department.
Lower-Division Student Awards
The department awards prizes to our outstanding lower-division math students. Eligible students:
- Must have finished Calculus I
- Must be enrolled in a math course in the spring semester (Calculus II or higher)
- Must be a freshman or sophomore, i.e., be in their first or second year at SLU (The department considers total time enrolled, not hours completed)
- Must have mostly A's in their math courses
These awards are by recommendation only for students in or beyond the calculus sequence. If you would like to be considered for these awards, speak to your instructor.
Calculus Award
For students satisfying the above criteria who have not completed the calculus sequence.
Math Award
For students satisfying the above criteria who have completed the calculus sequence and are currently enrolled in a math class beyond calculus.
Graduate Student Awards
Andrews Award
The John J. Andrews Service Award is given yearly to a graduate student for service in the life of the department. The award was established by a gift from Dr. Andrews, a long-time faculty member of the department.
