Hope Lodges are free, temporary housing facilities for cancer patients who are undergoing treatment. They provide a home-like nurturing environment, so patients can get support from others going through the same experience. A cancer survivor’s recovery involves much more than medical treatments; it takes hope to heal. Hope Lodge offers the warmth and security of home in a setting where the love and encouragement of others enlighten and inspire guests. At Hope Lodge, guests rally around each other, building life-affirming connections and lifetime friendships.
- Dining with Hope: A powerful volunteer program that allows, local groups and organizations an opportunity to provide cancer patients and their caregivers an opportunity to share food and fellowship, as well as a sense of hope and understanding at the American Cancer Society Hope Lodge.
- Front Desk Support: Assist our housekeeper in cleaning guest rooms, kitchens, and day rooms. Also tasks such as vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, cleaning windows and many others.
- Game Night: Host a game night for the cancer patients and caregivers staying at Hope Lodge. We have board games, card games and bingo.

At BJC Hospice, through compassionate care, we provide a circle of support that is centered on comfort, quality of life, and the individual needs of each patient and family we serve.
- Home Visitor: Volunteers are needed to visit patients in the patient’s home to provide companionship, respite for the caregiver, help with housework, etc. Most visits take place on weekdays during the day. Having a car is required. Opportunities are limited.
- Inpatient Unit Volunteer: Volunteers are needed at Evelyn’s House, BJC’s 16-bed inpatient hospice facility in Creve Coeur. Volunteer duties include staffing the front desk, upkeep of the house, administrative duties, and occasional visits with patients. Having a car is required.
- Lumina Volunteer: Volunteers are needed for the Lumina program, which offers patients the opportunity to preserve the stories and experiences that define their lives. Volunteers help patients write letters to loved ones or create memory books, scrapbooks, videos, etc. Having a car is required.
Remote opportunities include:
- Blanket-Making: Volunteers are needed to make no-sew fleece blankets for adult patients in hospice. No sewing skills are needed, just the ability to cut fabric and tie knots. This activity is perfect for either a group project or working alone.
- Card-Making: Brighten the day of a hospice patient by making simple greeting cards. It makes a great project to do individually or as a group. All that’s needed is ordinary paper and markers, colored pencils or crayons.
- Veteran's Cards: Make a military veteran feel special in his or her final days by making patriotic greeting cards. The only materials needed are ordinary paper and markers, colored pencils or crayons. Stickers can be used as well.

- Patient Interpreter: Perform on-site and over-the-phone interpretation for patients, families, and health care providers who prefer to speak in their primary language, other than English. A volunteer interpreter renders all messages accurately and completely, without adding, omitting, or substituting, to enable other parties to know precisely what each speaker has said. Provide simple translation and complete interpretation work requests as per protocol. Let Me Run inspires boys through the power of running to be courageous enough to be themselves, to build healthy relationships, and to live an active lifestyle. Work can be done from home
- Volunteer Coach: As a Let Me Run Coach, you will lead, mentor, and inspire the boys on your team to be confident, respectful, and healthy. Your team will meet twice a week for an hour and fifteen minutes. A team of coaches facilitates practice through our easy-to-follow curriculum. Each season culminates with an end-of-season 5K, which provides Let Me Run participants and coaches the opportunity to celebrate their accomplishments, support each other, and deepen their understanding of their individual and collective potential. Coaches are required to attend a training session, which then certifies them to coach for two years.

Every child born deserves basic essentials. But we do not have to look outside our own country to find babies in desperate need of support from Newborns in Need. In America, nearly 11 million children are poor. That’s 1 in 7 children, who make up almost one-third of all people living in poverty in this country. Incredibly, babies in our very own country go without a fresh diaper, warm blankets, clothing, or a safe place to sleep. Poverty or illness impacts the tiniest babies and families become overwhelmed. Without a strong support system, the gift of basic essentials to these families gives them a chance to provide for the new baby immediately after birth.

As a pediatric bridge hospital, Ranken Jordan helps kids from birth to 21 who are well enough to leave a traditional hospital but still need help before they go home. Located in the heart of the Midwest, we specialize in caring for children and families with the most complex conditions, illnesses, and injuries and bridge the gap between hospital and home.

- House Volunteers: As a House Volunteer, you welcome families to The Ronald McDonald House. It may be a warm, friendly smile to a returning family or helping a family settle in for the first time. Remote opportunities include:
- Hopsital Buddy Program: Facilitates weekly virtual buddy visits with children who are patients of World Pediatric Project, brought from South America for medical care, where they engage in fun activities and building connections to provide fun friendship and support.
In-person opportunities include:
- Senior Buddy Program: Facilitates monthly in-person group activities with residents at partnering facility to provide intergenerational connections for volunteers. These connections can then lead to buddy matching where volunteers are assigned an individual buddy to connect with weekly via in-person, by phone or virtual calls, for meaninful interactions.
- Hospital Buddy Program: Facilitates connections with international pediatric patients brought to the US for medical care. Volunteers provide weekly visits, both in-person and virtually, depending on the needs of the patient and their caregiver, to allow these patients opportunities to develop friendships and enjoy activities to distract them from the stressors associated with ongoing medical care. They also provide regular group activities for residents at the Ronald McDonald House in St Louis where the patients reside during their stay in the states.

Visiting Nurse Association of Greater St. Louis (VNA) provides a coordinated continuum of care, throughout one’s life span, that promotes health, independence and dignity in the home and community without regard to race, color, age, sex, religion, sexual orientation, gender identification, national origin, socioeconomic status, political beliefs or disability.
- Hospice Volunteer: Provide companionship to patients by visiting and extending friendship on a weekly or every-other-weekly basis. Patients are located either in homes or nursing home facilities.
- Resale Shop Volunteer: Volunteers are needed to assist in our Hospice Resale Shop, acting as a cashier, floor clerk, or merchandise sorter .
- Craft Volunteer: Get together once or twice a month to make seasonal and craft items for patients/families, crochet, etc.
- Visiting Volunteer: Provide a form of companionship for a Senior in our Visit-A-Bit Program that is experiencing loneliness and isolation. Assist with educating the senior on techniques that will assist in living alone happily while providing an outlet for conversation, bonding and rapport building.
