City Garden Montessori School (CGMS) takes an innovative approach to public education in its use of the Montessori model to deliver instruction and by fortifying its culture with anti-biased, anti-racist principles. Saint Louis University has sponsored this pre-kindergarten through eighth-grade public charter school since it was established in 2008.
Mission and Vision
City Garden exists to redefine education by developing the whole child in an excellent, inclusive Montessori school; to reimagine community by creating spaces and systems that help to restore our collective humanity; and to reinvigorate our world by creating a culture in which individuals and communities thrive without disparities or barriers to success.
In the process of nurturing our students to be competent, creative, lifelong learners who practice compassion, respect, nonviolence and sustainability, we will strengthen families, the neighborhoods we serve, and the City of St. Louis as a whole.

2019-2020
2020-2021: Due to the comprehensive impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on every facet of City Garden’s operations, SLU opted not to conduct a formal evaluation for the 2020-2021 academic year. SLU will conduct an annual evaluation of the 2021-22 academic year via our standard evaluation protocol; the final evaluation report will be published here when complete and after having been presented publicly at a City Garden Board of Directors meeting.
