Summer Immersion Practicum in Madrid

The program is open to all students who have completed the junior-year clinical rotations at the Saint Louis University Trudy Busch Valentine School of Nursing. Preference will be given to those SLU students who have completed a previous clinical rotation in Madrid.

This 3-credit-hour nursing elective course provides Spanish-speaking students with an intensive learning experience in clinical nursing in Madrid. The Madrid SIP allows the student to apply classroom knowledge in clinical settings and to work under the guidance of an experienced nurse preceptor employed by the clinical partner(s). In addition, the student will have the opportunity to increase his/her knowledge about health care delivery and the role of nursing in Spain.

Details

  • Clinicals will occur at recognized Sanitas hospitals in Madrid.
  • Students will experience a total of 126 hours in the clinical facility. The experience may include 8-hour shift rotations. The student will typically work on the same schedule and in the same setting as the RN mentor. SLU-Madrid faculty will be available to students whenever they are in the clinical area.
  • The student will be assigned to one (and no more than two) clinical area(s) during the period of the SIP. Clinical assignments will be determined by the agency representatives and the faculty who will, as much as possible, take into consideration the student鈥檚 preference for assignment(s).
