SLU-Madrid Starts School Year with Convocation

On Friday, Aug. 30, Saint Louis University — Madrid faculty and staff welcomed its incoming freshmen and transfer students in the annual formal welcome ceremony.
Alongside interim campus administration, the SLU-Madrid community rang in Fall 2024 by congratulating the class of 2028 for starting their academic journeys. The Madrid campus welcomed participants in partnership programs with Northeastern University and University of Delaware.
This year, 315 first-year students have decided to make SLU-Madrid their home campus.
New students are from 51 countries. With 23% of students holding more than one passport, the class of 2028 represents 58 nationalities.
"Our total campus enrollment is about 1,250 — up about 13% from last year, making you the largest incoming class in SLU-Madrid recent history," said SLU-Madrid 91Ƭs Director Heidi Buffington during the convocation ceremony.
The most-represented countries by citizenship are the United States, Spain, Morocco, Brazil and France- There is a considerable number of students from Georgia, Italy, Lebanon, Mexico and Russia.
American students come from 33 U.S. states. The top five states among the class of 2028 are California, Florida, Texas, Illinois and SLU's home state of Missouri.
Psychology remains the top major at SLU-Madrid for the third year in a row. Mechanical engineering — one of the newest programs — is among the five most in-demand degrees this fall.
