Dermatology Free Skin Cancer Screening Returns in May
SLUCare Department of Dermatology, in collaboration with the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD), will offer free skin cancer screenings on Saturday, May 4, 2024, marking the 27th year of this event.
The screening event will take place from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the SLUCare Des Peres location, specifically at the Des Peres Medical Arts Pavilion II, located at 2315 Dougherty Ferry Road, Ste. 200B.
Individuals interested in receiving a screening will be asked to sign in and will be seen on a first-come, first-served basis, as time allows. The screening is free and involves a total body skin examination in a private examination room. Treatments will not be administered on the day of the screening; instead, those requiring treatment will be referred to a dermatologist if they do not already have one. The screening process typically takes about five minutes, and the total time spent at our screening center should be approximately 20 minutes.
May is Melanoma and Skin Cancer Awareness Month. This initiative aims to raise awareness about the importance of early detection and prevention of skin cancer, particularly melanoma, which is the deadliest form of skin cancer. Regular screenings can help detect skin cancer in its early stages, when it’s most treatable.
