Justice-Based Occupational Therapy

Justice-based Occupational Therapy (JBOT) is a network of occupational therapy  practitioners, educators, researchers, and students promoting advocacy for occupational engagement/participation and health for those within and/or impacted and/or at risk for involvement with the justice system (staff, persons incarcerated, families and friends, employers), to further societal wellbeing.

About JBOT

Text-based logo reading JBOT Justice-Based Occupational Therapy in blue fontIn 2018, we held our inaugural collaboration and planning meetings at the American Occupational Therapy (AOTA) Conference in Salt Lake City, Utah. Nearly 40 occupational therapy practitioners, researchers and students with experience and/or in-depth knowledge of justice-based occupational therapy practice participated. In May of the same year, we held our second meeting with an international group at the World Federation of Occupational Therapy (WFOT) Congress in Cape Town, South Africa. We look forward to continuing these meetings at future conferences in order to create and implement an agenda towards supporting occupational therapy in this area of practice.
