Curricular Innovation

Diverse Cultural Experiences

  • Provide care for members of the with Latinx, Bosnian, Somalian, Iraqi, Vietnamese, and other communities in an urban underserved FQHC.

Addiction Medicine Training 

  • Residents provide medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to their continuity patients with opioid use disorder in the primary care setting.
  • Additional addiction experiences include addiction medicine elective, regular addiction-focused didactic lectures, and access to the expertise and experience of the addiction faculty and fellows of SLU’s Addiction Medicine Fellowship.

Academic University-Based Training Program 

  • Opportunities to participate in community-based research, with top-notch resources and support from the Department of Family and Community Medicine research staff.

Longitudinal Wellness Program

  • Intentional part of our residency culture.
  • Emphasis on cultivating relationships includes resident generational families, regular resident support group, biannual team building retreats, and frequent social gatherings/happy hours.
  • Regular behavioral health shadowing in clinic helps residents work on time management and patient interactions.
  • Longitudinal wellness curriculum includes Balint and support group, regular lectures and experiential learning opportunities through VA Whole Health program, and regular offerings in medical humanism and personal/professional development.

Concentration Tracks 

  • For interested residents, optional concentration tracks are available in maternity care, addictions, and sports medicine
