Annual Events

Specific dates and times for events will be noted on our calendar. You may also contact the Division of Mission and Identity at 314-977-7065 or at jesuitmission@slu.edu.

Mass of the Holy Spirit

The Mass of the Holy Spirit is a tradition at Jesuit schools and universities worldwide. These celebrations date back to 1548, when the initial Mass was celebrated at the first Jesuit school in Messina, Sicily. At SLU, the Mass is celebrated at St. Francis Xavier College Church on one of the first days of classes each fall.

Cannonball Picnic

While SLU's campus is quiet during fall break, this annual gathering for University staff members recognizes and celebrates the contributions of the SLU community. The picnic gets its name from the battlefield injury suffered by St. Ignatius in 1521.

All Souls Day Mass

On the feast of All Souls, November 2, the Saint Louis University community celebrates a special memorial Mass at St. Francis Xavier College Church to remember and pray for the faithful departed. The community is invited to honor the life of a loved one by adding their name to a special book of remembrance that remains in the church during the month of November.

Prayer Service for the Gift-Body Program

Each fall, a memorial service in thanksgiving for gift-body donors is held on the campus of Saint Louis University. First-year medical students organize this event with assistance from faculty and the medical school鈥檚 campus minister. The names of the current donors are placed in a basket and covered with flowers. Following the service, students place the flowers at the gravesite.

Bellarmine Lecture

Hosted each fall in collaboration with the Department of Theological Studies, this lecture allows the SLU community to engage with renowned theologians in their specific areas of expertise.

DeLubac Lecture

Hosted each spring by the Department of Theological Studies, the DeLubac Lecture explores the connection between our theology of Christ and how it is demonstrated in every other area of our Christian thinking and acting.

Baccalaureate Mass

The Baccalaureate Mass is an opportunity for the Saint Louis University community to thank God for the gifts and opportunities bestowed upon our graduates and their growth and success. It is also a chance to pray for their continued protection as they are sent out at graduation for the greater glory of God and the service of humanity.
