Doctrina Program

Doctrina is Latin for "learning." We hope that throughout your journey with the Learning Communities program at SLU, you're taking the opportunities we present to learn, grow, and develop your own academic and social interests and passions.

The Doctrina program is designed to help you get involved with faculty events, social activities with your peers provided by the LC program, and events across campus. Upon completion of the Doctrina program requirements, students will earn an academic certificate of completion and a graduation medallion to be worn at commencement.

To complete the Doctrina Program, you must meet the following requirements each semester:

  • Earn 40 points each semester by attending and reflecting on community experiences and events sponsored by the Learning Community Program

Learning Community Medallion Symbolism

The front of the learning community medallion features a fleur-de-lis, a laurel 鈥 which symbolizes accomplishment, achievement and honor 鈥 and the words 鈥淪aint Louis University Learning Community Scholar.鈥

On the back of the medallion is a quote that embodies the lifelong learning goals of SLU鈥檚 learning community program:

The more you know yourself, the more clarity there is. Self-knowledge has no end 鈥 you don't come to an achievement, you don't come to a conclusion. It is an endless river.
