Why Choose the Life Sciences Learning Community?

SLU's Life Sciences Learning Community gives you the opportunity to live and study with others who share your major. The community will help you to develop and explore interests in the medical sciences, public health, sustainability and technology in science. One of the main goals of this community is to provide the optimal environment for studying, learning and building community with other science and pre-medical students.

This community is open to all students, but is especially recommended for those majoring in biology, chemistry, premedical studies or environmental science.

Life Sciences Courses

The learning community academic coordinator will place all learning community students into the associated life sciences courses.

Ashley Viehmann Milam, Ph.D., is an assistant professor in the Department of Biology. A native of the St. Louis area, Milam received her B.S. in biological engineering from the University of Missouri, and her Ph.D. in immunobiology from Yale University. Milam does not currently have a research lab, but her past published research was in the field of cellular/molecular immunology and autoimmunity, focusing on the link between affinity for self-antigen, cellular metabolism, and the primary and memory responses of CD4+ T cells.

Outside of the world of science, Milam is a fan of watching sports, British television, and old movies, as well as playing board games. She enjoys spending her free time with her husband, their son, and her dog Connor, who can often be found begging for treats in her office.
