12/13/24- The Center for Health Law Studies and the Saint Louis University Legal Clinics proudly announce a new academic Medical-Legal Partnership (MLP) among SLU LAW, SLU School of Medicine, and SSM Cardinal Glennon Children鈥檚 Hospital. Danielle Pelfrey Duryea joins the Center for Health Law Studies and the Saint Louis University Legal Clinics as the founding Director.
12/12/24- Professor Bartlett joins the Board of Editors for the Clinical Legal Review, a joint venture between the American Association of Law Schools, the Clinical Legal Education Association and the New York University School of Law.
10/30/24- The annual Childress Lecture considered the future of Constitutional interpretation with a keynote address from Madiba K. Dennie and two panels of distinguished speakers.
10/04/24- MJ Ortiz is one of 12 young lawyers from across the state who were named to the 2024-2025 Missouri Bar Leadership Academy.
07/19/24- As the nation's leading scholar on the vice presidency, Joel Goldstein, the Vincent C. Immel Professor Emeritus, can be found in nearly every major publication weighing in on vice presidential picks and the race to the White House.
07/08/24- Professor Michael Sinha, JD, MD, MPH co-authored an article entitled 鈥淔our Decades of the Orphan Drug Act and Priorities for the Future,鈥 published in this week鈥檚 issue of the prestigious New England Journal of Medicine. The article was written in conjunction with Professors Ariel Stern, PhD of the Hasso Plattner Institut and Arti Rai, JD of Duke Law.
07/08/24- Professors Liebesman, Fields Allsbrook, and Walker join the SLU LAW Summations podcast to discuss some of the most significant decisions to be handed down during the 2024 United States Supreme Court session.
06/12/24- Dean William Johnson, outgoing dean of Saint Louis University School of Law, has been named rector and vice president of SLU鈥檚 Madrid campus, effective Oct. 1. SLU Provost Michael Lewis, Ph.D., said Johnson possesses a unique set of academic, professional and personal skills that made him the ideal choice for the position.
06/10/24- Associate Dean Kathryn Banks, professor and director of the Children's Permanency Clinic, was named to Focus St. Louis' 49th Leadership St. Louis (LSL) class. She joins a prestigious group of more than 2,700 leaders who have graduated from the LSL program since its inception in 1976.
06/04/24- Healthcare antitrust scholar Theodosia Stavroulaki and LGBTQ health equity expert Heather Walter-McCabe join the Center for Health Law Studies faculty in the fall.
04/10/24- Twinette Johnson, J.D., Ph.D., dean and professor of law at the University of the District of Columbia David A. Clarke School of Law (UDC Law), has been selected as the next permanent dean of Saint Louis University School of Law. She will succeed William Johnson, J.D., who has served as dean since 2017. Saint Louis University Provost Michael Lewis announced she will assume the role effective July 1, 2024.
02/01/24- Professor Jamille Fields Allsbrook was named a senior fellow for health justice for the national nonprofit and nonpartisan organization that works to make life better for women and families.
12/07/23- In an effort to expand its diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) efforts, Saint Louis University School of Law has recently begun connecting with local law firms and alumni to improve the lives of underrepresented students.
11/17/23- Lily Iler (3L) and Sydney Rempe (3L), traveled to Geneva, Switzerland, alongside Professor Lauren Bartlett to represent the Human Rights at Home Litigation Clinic before the United Nations Human Rights Committee.
11/16/23- Hosted by the SLU Law Journal, the lecture titled Progressive Constitutionalism and its Libertarian Discontents: The Case of LGBTQ Rights, explored the ways in which libertarian political morality and constitutionalism creates a double-edged sword for progressives. The keynote was delivered by Professor Carlos Bell.
11/01/23- Saint Louis University Provost Michael Lewis has appointed a 14-member committee to identify candidates for the position of dean of Saint Louis University School of Law. Dean William P. Johnson will step down on June 30, 2024. Johnson has served as dean since 2017 and previously served as the director of the School of Law鈥檚 Center for International and Comparative Law.
09/20/23- Impressive July 2023 bar exam passage rates and a nod from the TaxProf Blog regarding the success of SLU LAW students showcase the hard work of the law school鈥檚 high-achieving alumni.
08/11/23- Belinda Dantley, the assistant dean for diversity, equity and inclusion was honored by Missouri Lawyers Weekly for her work in the field.
08/07/23- In recognition of her status as a leading legal scholar, Marcia McCormick, the director of the Saint Louis University School of Law William C. Wefel Center for Employment Law, was elected to two prestigious organizations, the College of Labor and Employment Lawyers and the American Law Institute.
08/07/23- Professor Wagner, the director of the SLU LAW Center for International and Comparative Law, served as the co-editor for 鈥淎 Guide to Human Rights Due Diligence for Lawyers鈥 published this year by the American Bar Association, Section of International Law.
08/02/23- Professor Roger Goldman passed away on July 29, 2023. He joined the School of Law faculty in 1971 and was most recently the Callis Family Professor of Law Emeritus. He was a beloved professor and colleague and was well known for his advocacy regarding police certification standards.
06/27/23- Students participating in the Summer Law Program in Madrid provide snapshots of their life studying in Europe this summer. The program is a six-week program at the Saint Louis University Madrid campus that offers enriching, rewarding comparative and international law educational opportunities.
05/22/23- This Spring, the Black Law Students Association and the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Teams garnered great success in their respective competitions. Besides their dedication, intellect, and passion, there was another common thread on both teams: 2L Rashae Williams.
05/11/23- The Saint Louis University School of Law Center for Health Law Studies is once again ranked a top program in health care law by U.S. News & World Report for the 2024 rankings. The program has been ranked number one for all but two of the past nineteen years.
05/08/23- Federal health law policy advisor Jamille Fields Allsbrook; national bar reform advocate and legal profession scholar, Marsha Griggs; and law and inequality scholar Jeremiah Ho will join the School of Law in July.
04/27/23- Professor Michael Sinha, JD, MD recently co-authored an article entitled 鈥淐ourt Intrusion Into Science and Medicine 鈥 the Mifepristone Decision鈥 that was published in the Journal of the American Medical Association. The article was written in conjunction with Daniel Aaron, JD, MD and Teneille Brown, JD both of the University of Utah鈥檚 S.J. Quinney College of Law.
04/24/23- On April 14, 2023, the Saint Louis University School of Law hosted the Center for International and Comparative Law (CICL) and Saint Louis University Law Journal Symposium, titled "The Legitimacy and Legality of War: From Philosophical Foundations to Emerging Problems."
03/02/23- On February 10, 2023, nine new members were inducted into the SLU LAW Order of the Fleur de Lis Hall of Fame. This is the highest honor given by the School of Law.
02/27/23- The SLU LAW Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Team will be advancing to the International Rounds in April.
11/22/22- Drug-policy expert joins the Saint Louis University School of Law faculty after serving as the director of the health law program at Creighton University School of Law.
11/04/22- Saint Louis University Law Journal's 2022 Childress Memorial Lecture featured Stephen Vladeck from Texas Law discussing the Business of the Supreme Court.
08/04/22- A Saint Louis University School of Law class continues over a decade of work towards Medicaid expansion by creating a helpline for new clients.
05/10/22- On April 19th, the Unity Dinner encouraged students, faculty and staff to stop by the 12th floor for a meal. The dinner brought in over a hundred attendees and showcased student excitement for future in-person events.
05/09/22- O'Malley will join the Legal Analysis, Research, and Communications, formally LRW, faculty in the fall. She last served as an associate teaching professor at Syracuse University College of Law.
04/01/22- The Black Law Students' Association Mock Trial Team won second place in the regional competition and earned their way to nationals. The BLSA team also hosted several events in celebration of Black History Month at SLU LAW.
03/29/22- Established in 1982, SLU LAW's Center for Health Law Studies has been ranked a top program by U.S. News & World Report for all but two of the last 18 years.
03/21/22- The Center for International and Comparative Law hosted two open-meeting teach-ins by Professors Monica Eppinger, a former diplomat and expert on Ukraine and Afonso Seixas-Nunes, an expert in international criminal law to inform students, faculty and staff about the war.
03/09/22- After visiting in the fall, Michael Duff will join the faculty in a permanent role; A noted health law scholar, Michael Sinha will join the faculty in the fall semester.
02/08/22- Alma Carver (鈥21) was recognized for her paper, 鈥淩econsidering Controlled Human Infection Studies in a Paradigm Favoring Placebo Controlled Trials,鈥 in the Epstein Becker Green Health Law Writing Competition.
01/21/22- Assistant Dean Belinda Dantley, along with her colleague at American University Washington School of Law released a report from a survey of diversity, equity, and inclusion professionals at law schools across the country.
01/12/22- Scholarship by Professor Ana Santos Rutschman was among the top downloads on SSRN among professors nationwide.
11/03/21- The research from the Center for Health Law Studies and the Institute of Healing Justice and Equity found 107 jurisdictions across the United States using racial equity tools.
10/12/21- Angela Onwuachi-Willig, dean of Boston University School of Law gave the keynote address for the 2021 Childress Memorial Lecture: Critical Race Theory and the Law.
10/12/21- Through a partnership with local organizations, St. Louis City and County residents can call the newly formed helpline and speak to trained volunteers that will help them navigate the expanded eligibility of Medicaid in Missouri.
10/01/21- Second-year student Kadiedra Jones spent the summer participating in the Summer in Madrid program, followed by an internship at ECIJA in the Dominican Republic. A once in a lifetime experience she was eager to share.
09/30/21- Third-year, dual-degree J.D./M.H.A. student Hiba Al-Ramahi spent the summer as a summer associate for the Cleveland Clinic. The position annually has nearly 100 law students apply, and this year, Al-Ramahi was one of just two chosen.
08/09/21- The five-day virtual program had nearly 100 students attend each day, hailing from 26 different states, Canada, Ghana and Trinidad & Tobago.
07/30/21- Prof. Emeritus John Ammann served as counsel of record for 33 amici, including Prof. Sidney D. Watson, who was also a lead organizer for the expansion initiative.
06/21/21- The series, "Emerging from the Pandemic: Legal Issues," will feature professors from each of the law school's three centers, as well as a bonus session presented by an alumna.
